GATEWAY TO LEARNING
Our world-class Summer Schools provide the opportunity for youngsters between the age of 9 - 17 years old to come to live and learn at one of two prestigious rural boarding schools located in the historic north-east of England. These are learning adventures in a safe, relaxed environment that get youngsters started on a journey that will quite literally change their lives. Mentored by dedicated learning professionals, they will be immersing themselves in the English culture from their very first day to their graduation, with a group of new lifelong friends speaking and writing English at the highest levels with native speakers. They will laugh and play, enjoying exciting trips out and get a taste for higher education in masterclasses at world-class universities. All overseen by our programme lead Lisa McGee, Lisa has a wealth of experience of over 28 years in education, and is an award-winning STEM leader, STEM ambassador and STEM Trailblazer winner. |

Our Programme has two stunning UK Boarding School locations: Fyling Hall School, Whitby (6th July- 3rd August) and Barnard Castle School , Barnard Castle (11-25th July 2025).
It is fully residential with all meals, entry tickets, certificates and programmes included. Transfers, flights and insurance are not included. Transfers can be arranged from any airport. The nearest airports are: Newcastle; Leeds Bradford and Manchester. Our Programme is for ages 9-17 (but contact us about younger siblings -see FAQs) |

Morning English Language Classes
The day begins with focused language lessons designed to develop your child’s English language skills. Our classes emphasize listening, speaking, reading, and writing in a fun and engaging way. Students work on improving their vocabulary, grammar, fluency and pronunciation while participating in interactive lessons that encourage communication and collaboration.

Break
A short break for students to relax, socialize, and refresh before moving onto the next part of the day.

English Language Classes (Continued)
The learning continues as students further develop their skills through group activities, games, and challenges that encourage the practical use of English in various contexts. They’ll engage in discussions, role-playing, and projects that reinforce what they’ve learned.

Lunch
A delicious, nutritious lunch to refuel for the afternoon’s activities. Students can enjoy the highest quality food in the dinner hall or share time having a picnic on the lawn.

The afternoon is dedicated to fun and adventure! After language lessons, students participate in a range of scheduled activities that may include:

Students are given free time to relax with friends and reflect on the day’s experiences. This is an opportunity for them to unwind in their beautiful surroundings, hang out in the theatre and in the treehouse, phone home and get ready for an evening of fun!

A relaxed dinner to wrap up the day, where students can discuss the day’s highlights and look forward to the next exciting experience.

Evening Entertainment; Scheduled Activities and Conversation Club
The evening is filled with social activities that foster interaction among students. This will include team games (Capture the Flag is a favourite);Dodgeball; baking; football and movie nights. Don’t miss your chance to attend our Quality Marked Conversation Club with native speakers.

Downtime and Bedtime
Students head to their rooms to rest and recharge for another fulfilling day of learning and adventure.

A TYPICAL SUMMER SCHOOL DAY
On a typical day, after a delicious, healthy breakfast we spend the morning learning or practicing our high-level English speaking in formal lessons. We then enjoy a relaxing lunch before an afternoon programme of activities:
During the evening there will also be the opportunity to participate in organised activities or time just to relax with new friends.
- Sports/fun team games together (like Capture the Flag; Hunted or Bake-Off Challenge)
- Exploring the region on trips to locations such as Alnwick Castle (the home of Harry Potter); or Hadrian’s Wall (a World Heritage Site)
- Having fun at an aquapark or Go Ape; or learning to surf at the beach
- Visiting local universities for masterclasses
During the evening there will also be the opportunity to participate in organised activities or time just to relax with new friends.
