​THE PRINCE BISHOPS

The north-east of England has been a foundation for learning for over 900 years - predating even the ancient universities at Oxford and Cambridge.

From 1075, the Bishop of Durham became a Prince Bishop, with the right to raise an army mint his own coins, and levy taxes as the autonomous ruler of a mini English kingdom. The Cathedral at Durham is the resting place of The Venerable Bede - a polymath widely regarded as the greatest of all the Anglo-Saxon scholars, who established a unique cultural and learning centre in the region between 673 and 735 AD. 

​A GATEWAY TO LEARNING

Our world-class Summer Schools provide the opportunity for youngsters between the age of 11 - 17 years old to come to live and learn at one of two prestigious rural boarding schools located in the historic north-east of England.

These are learning adventures in a safe, relaxed environment that get youngsters started on a journey that will quite literally change their lives. Mentored by dedicated learning professionals, they will be immersing themselves in the English culture from their very first day to their graduation, with a group of new lifelong friends speaking and writing English at the highest levels with native speakers. They will laugh and play, enjoying exciting trips out and get a taste for higher education in masterclasses at world-class universities. All overseen by our progamme lead Lisa McGee, Lisa has a wealth of experience of over 28 years in education, and is an award-winning STEM leader, STEM ambassador and STEM Trailblazer winner.
